Net zero – cutting through the noise
51 views
Few issues are as significant to our environment and society, and investment returns, as climate change. The challenge it presents is only becoming more pressing, as the energy transition progresses too slowly, and the geopolitical environment becomes more complex.
We would like to invite you to join us to discuss three areas where we believe the time to act is now:
Net Zero 2050: More affordable than ever, if we act now - our latest research suggests the window to achieve a 1.5°C outcome, consistent with ‘net zero’ emissions by 2050, is closing fast. But it also highlights the surprisingly positive reductions in the cost to achieve such an outcome that we have already seen, and can also expect in the future, if we act now.
Omission Impossible: Scope 3 emissions cannot be ignored – measuring decarbonisation throughout the economy requires a logical and systematic approach where including Scope 3 emissions is vital. Although we recognise that Scope 3 data is in its infancy and very reliant upon estimation, we believe it is time to take action to incorporate Scope 3 in a careful and measured way to ensure we can increase focus on the issue and deliver the further improvements in data quality needed to drive real-world change.
Engagement-led investing: Being bolder about moving companies from brown to green – as investors look to decarbonise their portfolios, it has never been more important to remain focused on decarbonising the world. Engagement-led investing enables us to take action to direct capital towards some of the climate laggards where we see potential opportunities to have a positive impact, using our influence to help deliver tangible changes in strategy alongside long-term returns.
